We plan to fill a funded PhD student position in the Bergthaler Lab at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria. The project will apply cutting-edge methods from molecular biology and data analysis to advance pathogen surveillance in wastewater and other environmental contexts. This basic research project is positioned at the intersection of infectious diseases, public health and epidemiology. Its ambition is to develop public health applications that will impact human well-being
Your profile: + M. Sc or similar degree in biology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, data science, environmental engineering or related studies. + Excellent English skills + Self-dependent and self-motivated working style + Experience and/or keen interest in some of the following areas: DNA sequencing technologies; Data analysis with e.g., R, Python, Perl; Statistical expertise; Data visualization; Public health of infectious diseases We offer: + Funded position remunerated according to the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). + A diverse and supportive team in a meaningful, inspiring, and international setting. + Access to cutting-edge scientific infrastructure and comprehensive data sources.
