The research will be focused on machine learning for remote sensing. Specifically, we will develop machine learning methods and big data solutions to extract geographical insights from Earth observation data to address the ever-evolving dynamics of climate change. The project will make use of multimodal remote sensing data and improve the synergies among diverse data sources in Earth observation.
The research is funded by ELLIIT, Vinnova, and Zenith, and the results will be presented in scientific journals such as IEEE TGRS, ISPRS JPRS, RSE, and conferences such as CVPR, NeurIPS, and ICML.
As a PhD student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.
Your qualifications
You have a degree at an advanced level in computer science and engineering, or applied physics and electrical engineering, with at least 240 ECTS credits, of which at least 60 are cycle 2, with a specialization in computer vision and remote sensing or equivalent. Alternatively, you have acquired essentially the corresponding knowledge in some other way.
The applicant should have good mathematical maturity and be experienced in programming and remote sensing data analysis. We also look for the ability to work independently and to formulate and address technical and scientific questions. Your communication skills in English should be excellent, both orally and in writing.
