The United Nations University (UNU) is an international community of scholars engaged in policy-oriented research, capacity development and dissemination of knowledge, furthering the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations. UNU’s mission is to contribute, through research and capacity building, to efforts to resolve the pressing global problems that are the concern of the United Nations and its Member States.
The Institute generates policy-relevant analysis by applying a gender lens to inform the development, implementation and evaluation of health programmes. UNU-IIGH also supports the capacity development of local decision-makers and stakeholders to engage effectively with global health challenges within the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Description of Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Knowledge Management & Communications Manager the Communications Interns will:
1. Content Management and Creation:Assist in gathering inputs for UNU IIGH centralized newsletter through shared forms.Create social media collaterals, graphics, and designs using tools like CANVA for events, publications, and knowledge products. Support website management by creating and uploading new content/articles on online platforms.Assist with scheduling and posting content on the institute's social media channels.Monitor news, tweets, and social media posts for opportunities to amplify and enhance visibility.
2. Event Support:Contribute to the backend management of in-person and virtual events, including photography, recording, and live-streaming.Assist with compiling post-event statistics and data for analysis.
3. Media Relations:Distribute press releases and inform the media about newsworthy items.Maintain and update the list of contacts for newsletter and press releases
4. Others:Perform any other duties as may be required by the supervisor.

Qualifications
Education:University studies in one of the following disciplines: Media studies, Journalism, International relations, Mass communications or other relevant subjects are required.Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree (Active student or graduated less than 2 years)Language:Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required;Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.Experiences:Basic skills in graphic design and visual content creation for publications, events, and knowledge products. Familiarity with Canva and InDesign would be a plus.Familiarity with website management, content creation, or digital communications is a bonus. Some exposure to website management systems like WordPress and Drupal is helpful.Comfort using virtual meeting platforms like Zoom/Zoom Webinar or similar tools.Some experience with social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. A basic grasp of web metrics and the ability to work on analytics reports is a plus.Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and related software.Familiarity with Office 365 tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, and Teams.Some experience of video and photo editing would be an asset.
StipendThe selected Communication Intern will receive a monthly stipend of MYR 1,000.00 per month and will be paid on a monthly basis (Based on attendance)
Duration of contract: The duration of the internship is 3 months with a possible extension of up to 6 months maximum.
